About Our Materials

Pearls

Pearls are among the first ornamental gems.

A complex natural phenomenon on the surface reveals iridescence and reflections of light, known as the orient.

Two categories of pearls are on the market: the natural pearl is the result of a natural process and the cultured pearl is the result of human production in pearl farms.

Freshwater pearl: Generic term used to describe all pearls developed in a mollusk living in a non-saline environment.

Saltwater pearl: Generic term used to qualify all the pearls developed in a mollusc living in a salty environment.

Gems

A gem is an ornamental or decorative material. Any processed or cut material can be defined as such.

Gemstones and gem materials are two terms that can include: raw materials, organic materials, ornamental materials, and artificial materials.

Beauty, rarity, durability, value, and commercial appeal are the qualifying criteria for a gem.

They may have a unique color, shape, cutting style, transparency, luster, and optical effects.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR PRECIOUS METAL

  • Store your jewelry separately in pouches, such as within a compartmentalized box. Remember that when jewelry rubs against each other it damages their surface.

  • If the surface is too damaged, we can do a new polish for $70. However, it is ideal to do little in the life of the jewelry.

  • Be sure to avoid all chemicals, cosmetics, household products, and abrasives on your jewelry.

  • Remove the jewelry during intense activity to avoid breakage.

  • Tarnishing of jewelry is normal if it is worn often.

  • The acidity of our skin is a factor for which we may have some remedies.

  • An annual check of jewelry is recommended to keep it in good condition, especially jewelry decorated with gems, including pearls.

  • Soapy water is the most classic method. Take a toothbrush and scrub gently, then rinse with clean water.

We add to each order a polishing cloth for your Senzerina jewelry

  • We provide you with a polishing cloth, depending on the type of metal or jewelry you have purchase.

  • However, never use the polishing cloth on pearls or rhodium-plated jewelry, which will remove or damage the surface.

  • The jewelry polishing cloth allows you to gently remove tarnish from sterling silver, silver-plated, gold, and platinum jewelry.

  • Finish your polishing when you get a high luster and restore the patina of your precious pieces.

  • CAREFUL: No chemically-treated cloth, including this jewelry polishing cloth, may be used on the following items: organic stones, pearls, emerald, jadeite, lapis lazuli, malachite, opal, turquoise, and rhodium-plated jewelry.
